Nigawa Gakuin is excited to welcome our latest international student! Ellen, who comes from our sister school Mount Alvernia College in Australia, began her Japan experience this month and will be a Nigawa student until this July. Ellen loves sports and wants to learn more about Yuru-characters!
Please contact the international department if you are interested in hosting a student from abroad, either short or long-term. Additionally, for girls who wish to attend Ellen’s school in Australia from January next year, we will be accepting applications in May.
現在、仁川学院では姉妹校であるオーストラリアのMount Alvernia Collegeからの留学生、Ellenをお迎えしています！
From this December, a student from our sister school in Australia, Padua College, has joined us for a 6-week exchange. Due to COVID-19, this is the first time we have hosted an international student in 3 years! Since his arrival, Tom has already visited Tohoku and Hokkaido on the Year 11 school trip and taken part in our Christmas Week activities. During the winter break, he will have the chance to experience the Japanese New Year celebrations with his host family and see the sights around Kansai. Please join us in giving him a warm Nigawa welcome!
We recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from Lucrezio Caro High School (Rome, Italy). During the program, the students were hosted by 11 of our high school families, having an opportunity to experience both Japanese home and school life.
At school, the visiting students joined regular classes with their buddies and took part in some special classes conducted by a number of Nigawa teachers who have expertise in certain fields. There were opportunities for our elementary, junior and senior high school students to learn about Italy and make new friends.
Thank you very much to our host families! Your continued support of these programs is what keeps this experience alive. We are very appreciative of your time and hospitality.
Last week we had to say goodbye to our new friend, April, after she completed her month long exchange with us at Nigawa. April first became interested in Japan after meeting a Nigawa student who was on exchange at her school in Arizona, Saint Mary’s Catholic High School, last year. Although she doesn’t study Japanese, April had been interested in Japan for some time and wanted to make the most of her summer vacation by taking on a new experience. And what an experience she had! So many new friends and a whole new outlook on the world! And it was her first ever trip outside America!
We are going to miss her so much, but wish her all the best as she begins Year 11 this August. She has also promised to take care of the 3 Nigawa students who will be going to Saint Mary’s this year. Thanks April!
On May 27, we received a visit from Meiho Senior High School, as part of their Japan study trip. Thanks to our ongoing relationship with Hyogo International Association (HIA), once again we were able to spend a meaningful day with new friends from Taiwan, learning about their culture and introducing them to school life in Japan.
To all the students, teachers and staff from Meiho who joined the trip, thank you and all the best for the rest of your trip in Japan.
This year, we are lucky to have another student from our sister school in Australia, Padua College, with us for a short exchange. Sam has always wanted to come to Japan and that dream finally came true last week when he arrived from sunny Australia to the middle of the Japanese winter! While in Japan, Sam wants to improve his practical Japanese skills, experience the culture and make lots of new friends. Let’s all give him a warm Nigawa welcome.
On October 22 we received a group of students and teachers from Institution Marmoutier. This marks the 5th time that our friends from France have come to Nigawa for a short-term exchange.
Throughout the day, our visitors took part in activities with Nigawa Gakuin elementary, junior high and high school students. In addition to numerous activities that included joint classes, kendo, caligraphy and tea ceremony, the French students were hosted for 4 nights by Nigawa students, giving them a unique chance to experience Japanese home life. Moreover, the host students had an opportunity to make new friends and communicate with students from abroad in a more relaxed setting outside the school. These friendships have, in the past, been ongoing, with students staying in contact even after the program has completed.
Thank you Marmoutier for yet another exciting day. All of us here at Nigawa Gakuin look forward to your next visit in 2020.
On July 9, we received a visit from Nei-Li Junior High School, as part of their Japan study trip. Thanks to our ongoing relationship with Hyogo International Association (HIA), once again we were able to spend a meaningful day with new friends from Taiwan, learning about their culture and introducing them to school life in Japan. The highlight of the program was a joint concert with the Nigawa Gakuin Brass Band!
To all the students, teachers and staff from Nei-Li who joined the trip, thank you and all the best for the rest of your trip in Japan.
This February, Sahori became our first student ever to study abroad in France! Nigawa Gakuin has had a long partnership with Institution Marmoutier, located in the city of Tours about an hour from Paris, having hosted groups of French student regularly since 2010.
During the 3 week program, Sahori experienced high school life, stayed with 2 different families and even had some time to visit the sights in Paris.
We look forward to both hosting more students from Marmoutier in the future and to sending Nigawa students to France.
Last week we said goodbye to Rhys, a Padua College student who had been on a 2-month exchange with us since December. During his time with us at Nigawa, Rhys made many friends, improved his Japanese and left a lasting impression on both students and teachers alike. It was an absolute pleasure having him with us, and we wish him all the best with his final year of high school in Australia.
